Setting up Multiple Robotic Systems – Prof Barry McGuire

Professor Barry McGuire is a consultant urological surgeon at St. Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin and holds an academic appointment in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland as the Professor of Postgraduate Surgical Education and Academic Development. He specialises in the area of robotic surgery for kidney cancer and upper urinary tract reconstructive operations. Professor McGuire completed his undergraduate medical education in The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in 2002, graduating with honours degree. He completed a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) Degree in University College Dublin in 2007 in the area of renal fibrosis. He completed his surgical training in The Royal College of Surgeons in 2012, and obtained The Intercollegiate Fellowship in Urology (FRCS Urol) in 2012. He worked as a clinical research fellow for one year in Northwestern Memorial Hospital Chicago in the area of prostate cancer clinical research in 2011. He returned to Northwestern to complete a two-year Endo-Urological Society fellowship in robotic and minimally invasive surgery in 2013. He was appointed as Professor of Postgraduate Surgical Education and Academic Development in The RCSI in 2023. He has published widely over his career, has been awarded grants and prizes for research, has been involved as the clinical lead on national policies, and is faculty on annual European courses and academic meetings due to his experience in robotic surgery.
