
Prof Stewart Walsh
Prof of Vascular Surgery Uni of Galway and GUH
A 1997 graduate of University College Dublin, Professor Walsh has been the Chair of Vascular Surgery at the University of Galway since 2014. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, edited two books (General Surgery Outpatient Decisions, 2nd Ed, Radcliffe, 2008 and Cracking the Intercollegiate General Surgery FRCS, Taylor & Francis 2014) and is a contributor to the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Surgery.
Currently, he is the Clinical Lead for the National Surgical Research Support Centre at RCSI Surgical Affairs. He has extensive experience in clinical comparative-effectiveness research both as principal investigator in clinical trials as well as leading teams undertaking systematic reviews of both test accuracy and interventions. He has designed and led clinical trials, ranging from early phase 1 trials of medical devices and advanced therapeutics to multicentre clinical intervention trials. He has received funding from the Moulton Charitable Foundation, the Health Research Board and Science Foundation Ireland.
He regularly supervises surgical trainees undertaking higher research degrees and is actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate surgical education.
